As I reflect on the start of 2025, I’m filled with pride for all we’ve accomplished together so far in New Rochelle. It’s been a busy few months, and I want to make sure you’re in the loop on the progress we’re making.

From new businesses joining our community to important actions by City Council, we’ve been hard at work. I’m excited to share this update with you, and I hope you’ll stay connected and engaged as we keep pushing forward, together.

I am grateful that trusted and reputable media sources have reached out to learn more about exciting and positive developments in New Rochelle. Take a look at some of my favorites:

City Council Updates

  • Work Plan: City Manager Wilfredo Melendez presented this ambitious plan, which translates our budget into action. You can watch the presentation via this link.

Con Edison Rate Case Advocacy: New Rochelle joined 38 other Westchester municipalities to form a municipal consortium to oppose the latest proposed rate increases by ConEd.

Economic Development: Commissioner Adam Salgado and the economic development team provided a robust update. Take a look at the presentation

Innovative Environmental Plans: The City Council adopted a Climate Vulnerability Assessment (CVA) and GREENR, tools to proactively address climate-related concerns. Watch the presentations for CVA and GreeNR.

Youth Justice Advisory Committee: Approved in partnership with Judge Rice’s Opportunity Youth Part to support and create youth justice policies. You can watch the presentation via this link and apply to serve on the committee here.

Quality of Life in our Downtown: Under the leadership of the City Manager, the City is undergoing a comprehensive approach to help tackle several quality of life issues that we all have experienced in the downtown. Each issue will require different and nuanced approaches and responses.

Below are the most recent approaches and you should expect to see more updates in the coming months:

Smoking Regulations: A new City Code chapter consolidates smoking-related regulations, making enforcement easier. Watch the presentation here

NRPD Community Presence: The Ruby Dee Park kiosk (Lawton & Huguenot) will become an NRPD hub, and bike patrols are increasing to enhance public safety. Watch the presentation here.

Downtown Cleaning: The picture says it all! We see it, we get it, and we are addressing it!
